Résumé
Optimal control theory provides a mathematical framework for designing decision strategies in a wide range of complex real-world systems. In this talk, I present a twofold research approach that combines the development of mathematical tools for theoretical analysis with applied modeling for operational implementation, with a particular focus on crop irrigation in agriculture. This motivating example highlights how the formulation of a control problem can influence the structural properties of optimal solutions, and how it naturally leads to new mathematical questions in control theory. I then introduce a double modeling framework based on irrigation problems, showing how theoretical decision rules can be adapted for implementation in real-life systems. Finally, I discuss ongoing projects aimed at further characterizing the interplay between dynamical and geometrical features of control problems and the resulting structure…
